A Fond Farewell
It has been an honor to publish Gay San Diego for the past decade. I am proud to have been able to offer a platform for the LGBT community which has embraced us, and me.
It is now time to pass the torch, and I am pleased to be passing it to new owner, Terry Sidie. Terry is a successful businessman and former publisher of a LGBT magazine in Sacramento. He is well connected to our San Diego community and I am confident that he and his local staff (many of who are my former staff) will make Gay San Diego an even more important resource.
A huge thank you to my staff who assisted me in launching Gay San Diego, particularly Mike Rosensteel, and in producing our other five newspapers: San Diego Uptown News, San Diego Downtown News, Mission Valley News, Mission Times Courier and La Mesa Courier. This group of newspapers published by San Diego Community News Network, Inc., was sold to San Diego Community Newspaper Group (www.SDNEWS.com), publisher of La Jolla Village News, Beach & Bay Press and The Peninsula Beacon in April of this year. Special thanks to Albert Fulcher who has served as editor of Gay San Diego for the last year and a half. Albert has identified interesting and important stories and is a wonderful colleague. I am happy to report Albert will continue on as editor under the new ownership.
I owe a great deal of gratitude to the loyal readers of Gay San Diego and especially to the businesses who have advertised with us through the years. Without their support it would not have been possible to offer San Diego its own LGBT newspaper. I hope our advertisers will continue to support Gay San Diego and that our readers will continue supporting our advertisers whenever possible.
I also want to thank our local politicians who have supported us and contributed their columns and opinions throughout the years, particularly California State Senate President pro Tempore Toni. G. Atkins; (βNotes from Toniβ), U.S. Rep. Susan Davis, San Diego city councilmembers Chris Ward and Georgette Gomez, Assembly member Todd Gloria (possibly our future mayor of SD), SD County District Attorney Summer Stephan (βDistrict Attorney Newsβ) and SD City Attorney Mara Elliott (βCity Attorney Newsβ).
Please continue to read Gay San Diego in print or online. I know I will.
