Whether you run 4 miles in your neighborhood or come to Hillcrest to walk the traditional AIDS Walk route, it’s up to you to complete it how you’d like!
You can support the annual AIDS Walk & Run San Diego by participating in a virtual capacity. They revamped this year’s event so walkers, runners, volunteers, and community members can participate safely. And, of course, as enthusiastically as ever!
AIDS Walk & Run San Diego – San Diego’s largest HIV fundraising event – will take place Thursday, Sept. 23 through Sunday, Sept. 26. and will include an in-person and masked outdoor community celebration on Saturday, Sept. 25 at The Center, offering the community the best of both worlds. Once again, walkers and runners will have the flexibility to complete an interactive and fun route on their own schedule as individuals or with their teams and friends.
New for 2021, for those who are comfortable joining, they are adding a special in-person and masked outdoor community celebration on Saturday, Sept. 25, at The Center, with an opening ceremony, live musical performances, recognition of top teams and fundraisers, T-shirt distribution, booths spotlighting their event sponsors and funding recipients, a remembrance altar, and remarks from their most committed community leaders. Teams will be able to pick up their coveted yellow shoes for their amazing team fundraising, and the Extra Mile Club is back with their signature crowns – it will be so exciting to see these iconic shoes and crowns along the route again.
AIDS Walk & Run San Diego is a way to remember those we have lost to HIV/AIDS and to raise critically needed funds to support services for those impacted by HIV today. This event also promotes invaluable HIV education. Today, there are effective tools to combat HIV, and to prevent its spread. AIDS Walk & Run San Diego remains committed to supporting those efforts, including:
- HIV testing on at least an annual basis
- Knowing your HIV status and that of your partner/s
- Utilizing condoms, PrEP and PEP
- Staying connected to medical care and medication to get to/maintain undetectable viral loads
