SAN DIEGANS SELECTED TO SERVE ON ADVISORY BOARDS OVERSEEING PARKS, POLICE COMMUNITY RELATIONS
Mayor Todd Gloria today announced the following appointments to City boards and commissions:
Shaina Gross, 44, is being appointed as the representative for Council District 7 on the Park and Recreation Board, which advises the City on matters relating to the acquisition, development, maintenance and operation of parks, beaches and recreation properties and facilities.
Ms. Gross currently serves as the vice president of client services at the San Diego Workforce Partnership, providing strategic vision and implementation of workforce funding, helping youth and adults with education attainment, skill development and job placement. Before the Workforce Partnership, she served as the president and CEO of Susan G. Komen San Diego and as senior vice president and chief impact officer at The United Way of San Diego County. She holds a bachelor of arts degree in sociology and a master’s degree in public health, both from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She will be serving a two-year term ending March 1, 2024.
Rabbi Scott Meltzer, 53, is being appointed as the representative for Council District 1 on the Citizens Advisory Board on Police/Community Relations, which studies, consults and advises the Mayor and City Council on police community relations and crime prevention efforts.
Rabbi Meltzer is a rabbi at Ohr Shalom Synagogue and is an active member of the San Diego Rabbinic Association, where he served as president in 2006. He has served as a San Diego Police Department ride-along chaplain for 10 years and as a lecturer in religious studies at San Diego State University since 2006. Rabbi Meltzer has previously served as dean of students and residential life at American Hebrew University, director of education at Brandeis-Bardin Institute and chairperson of the Joint Synagogue-Federation Committee with the San Diego United Jewish Federation.
He received a bachelor of arts degree from Harvard University, a master of arts degree from the University of Southern California and a master of arts in Hebrew letters from Hebrew Union University. He will be serving a two-year term ending Jan. 1, 2024.
